Mount Tamalpais is the highest peak of the Marin Hills, located in Northern California. The elevation at the West Peak, its highest point, is at about 2,576 feet (785 m). The name Tamalpais was first recorded in 1845 and comes from the Coast Miwok name for this mountain, támal pájis, literally "west hill".
